The U.S. National Intelligence Council’s National Intelligence Estimate Iran: Nuclear Intentions and Capabilities, November 2007, stated:We judge with moderate confidence that the earliest possible date Iran would be technically capable of producing enough HEU [Highly Enriched Uranium] for a weapon is late 2009…We assess with high confidence that Iran has the scientific, technical and industrial capacity eventually to produce nuclear weapons…We should combine the foregoing excerpts with the reality that Iran has built, fields and maintains the largest, uniformed, most heavily armed, highly trained and disciplined terrorist organization in the world, Hezbollah, or ‘Party of God,’ which is imbued with and driven by a fierce, Global Shiite Jihadist ideology. It is multifaceted: considered by some to be a social services provider, by others a legitimate defense organization, and by others a terrorist organization. For purposes of international security its terrorism component must be the focus. All defenses, countermeasures and arms controls are highly porous and breachable. In order to “prevent nuclear terrorism” we must at last combat terrorism — not just terror. “Isms” are the products of the aforementioned core of the cult of culture. That core is both a force and its product. The force is that relentless instinct of mankind throughout its literate history to produce Ideologies — psychologically and sociologically essential to drive, legitimate, organize and perpetuate its behaviors. Some ideologies are benign. Some are malignant, in whole or in part. Today’s world threat to and breach of the peace are the malignant ideology and implementation of Global Islamic Jihad, which comprises World War IV. We cannot allow the savage sanctimonious ideology of Islamic Nuclear Jihad to continue. We must combat not just the preachers but also their preachments — at their roots. Waiting on Islamic reformists is delusional. There is no central religious authority. Religious edicts can be issued by any imam, and it is every imam for himself or his group. The Jihadists consider all reformists and cooperators with the West to be infidels, like the rest of us, to be slaughtered. The time has come — to end the 1400-year Jihad declared by Muhammad, to end the tyranny he created by an ideology whose very name — Islam — means “submission.” The past works of Muhammadan scholars, mathematicians and scientists in an Islamic age long dead, cannot serve to impede what must be done now — in extremis — caused by Islam itself. We must go beyond merely putting out fires at great cost in lives and treasure, to putting out the incendiary ideologies that light them.

H I S T O R I C I D E X A M P L E S
There have been two occurrences of what can be considered prototypical cases of Ideologic Defense, both during the 20th Century. Those were: <> UN Resolution 379(XXX), and <> Pope John Paul II’s bringing down the Soviet Union. They will be very briefly summarized below, and more fully described where noted in the summaries.UN RESOLUTION 379(XXX)The concept of Ideologic Defenses of Peace is expressed in a famous phrase in the Charter of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO): SINCE WARS BEGIN IN THE MINDS OF MEN IT IS IN THE MINDS OF MEN THAT THE DEFENSES OF PEACE MUST BE CONSTRUCTED. It is therefore fitting that the first example of ID took place in the United Nations.During a stage in the conflict between Israel and the Arab states in 1975, the Arab states introduced a Resolution in the UN General Assembly whose objective was either an aggressive attempt to undermine Israel or a defensive measure against Israel’s alleged aggressions or both. That was Resolution 379(XXX), “Elimination of all forms of racial discrimination,” which: (1) reaffirmed that “any doctrine of racial discrimination or superiority is scientifically false, morally condemnable, socially unjust and dangerous”; (2) took note of a Declaration adopted at the Conference of Ministers for Foreign Affairs at Lima in August 1975 that “condemned zionism as a threat to world peace and security and called upon all countries to oppose this racist and imperialist ideology“; and (3) determined “that zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination.” (emphasise supplied to highlight the focus on ideology, not behavior)The point here is wholly independent of whether or not the Resolution was justified, i.e., substantively legitimate. The point is that it was an official attack by one state or group of states on the official ideology of another state as constituting a threat to the peace in accordance with written law, in this cases the context of UN Charter Articles 99 and 39. As such it constitutes the first instance of Ideologic Defense, and more specifically what ID calls ‘Juridical Nullification.’ More broadly, any legal attack on a state’s ideology as contrary to law or generally accepted principles of civilized nations constitutes Juridical ID.The Resolution was fought hard by the US Ambassador to the UN at that time, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, as wholly illegitimate in substance.
This writer wrote Moynihan, informed him of the ID significance of the Resolution as forming a precedent for us to use in other, legitimate cases, and advised him therefore not to fight it so hard as to quash its legal precedence. He wrote back that that was an interesting point. The Resolution was defeated as false in substance by an Assembly vote — but remains legitimate as legal precedence. This is more fully discussed in PRINCIPIA IDEOLOGICA, Chapter 7, International ID.
DEFEAT OF THE SOVIET UNION.
Credit for the demise of the USSR is often attributed to President Reagan, but that is quite erroneous. Reagan did speak the truth out loud about the “evil empire,” and he did maintain a strong anti-Communist stance, and he did in various ways play key roles in meeting with and materially backing the true, powerfully aggressive and effective Leader of the real forces on the ground — the combination of Leader and forces that ultimately terminated Soviet domination of one nation in the Warsaw Pact, thereby settingin motion a domino effect that brought down the Warsaw Pact, which in turn brought down the Soviet Union. That nation was Poland, those forces were the Polish people, especially their Solidarity movement, and that Leader was Pope John Paul II.That largely unrecognized history is compressed and presented in the Section “The Decline and Fall of the Soviet Union,” pages 461-473, in Chapter 23, Beyond Deterrence, War, And Arms Control, in PRINCIPIA IDEOLOGICA.
Here we note only the cognitive method used by PJII was close to ID’s Reductive Nullification, but not quite, in that it pitted one’s own ideology, Catholicism, against another ideology, Communism, as superior to it, and used one’s own ideology to nullify the validity of that adversary ideology, rather than nullify it directly in substantive terms independently of one’s own ideology. His medium was himself: flying repeatedly to Poland and delivering massive masses and addresses in open fields to a million souls at a time despite the dangerous obstacles perpetrated by the Communist Polish government’s regiments and tanks, and his four papal encyclicals.
Furthermore, the Vatican realized that the head of the Polish government, General Jaruzelski, would be undergoing a terrible inner struggle between the Church in which he had so profoundly been a member and his Communist government role. PJII predicted that he would ultimately choose Church over Party, and met with him to preach principles and apply further doctrinal pressure. Despite Jaruzelki’s harsh measures, he ultimately caved under PJII’s relentless massive ideological warfare. Ultimately, PJII brought down that government and with it the Warsaw Pact and the Soviet Union.
